Yep, and several FF after that. Some other games also did this, even in tactical RPGs. Always easier to just use summoner.

FFIV: The After Years had a garbage story but the end game boss fights and optional dungeons were worth it. A lot of them had these sorts of scenarios.

Hey, we never saw Hadlar die. So now he will become the newest member of Dai's squad after being betrayed. Otherwise, why would the royal guard still have been active in the preview? They depend on Hadlar's magic power to stay alive, after all.

In almost all shonen, if you don't see body then it safe to assume that he is not dead.

Those barrage of attacks from Vearn onto Dai was way, WAY more impressive than when Itachi and Sasuke threw an endless amount of Shuriken/Kunai at each other in Shippuuden

Amazing episode, I really like Vearn's habit of baiting people before getting the drop on them. He burned Baran's body knowing it would get a rise out of Dai and proceeded to one shot him and tried to bait Maam as well later on. Also I'm really glad that the chess pieces are coming back next episode, I had a feeling they weren't' dead yet since they haven't really shown too much. The animation was also on point this episode.
